Even a RAID Can Fail

Some people (perhaps even subconsciously) would consider the words failed RAID to be an oxymoron. Sadly while it is undoubtedly the case that you massively reduce the likelihood of suffering the loss of critical data due to hardware failure if you opt to save that data in a RAID, it is also true that nothing on this earth is completely fail proof. It is also worth bearing in mind that despite the name, RAID 0 (alone amongst the RAID configurations) does not offer any data redundancy whatsoever.

Should the unthinkable happen and you find yourself with no access to the vital data that you stored in that RAID, then what you do first is absolutely critical and will hugely influence the likelihood of your data coming back. Ideally you should pick up the phone and speak to a specialist RAID recovery expert before you do anything else. Should you entrust it to a technologically able friend or someone who works in IT then at the very least make sure they clone the individual hard drives before they do anything else.
